Low Level Laser Therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY (LLLT) Just like medication, LLLT has its active ingredients or “medicine” (irradiation parameters) and “dose” (the irradiation time). When these parameters are correct for the condition being treated LLLT has been proven effective on pathologies as diverse as osteoarthritis, wounds, tendonopathies, peripheral nerve injuries, pain and muscle fatigue. In vitro and in vivo scientific explanations for the biphasic dose response to LLLT at molecular and cellular level explains why the natural assumption that if a small dose of red or near infrared light produces a significant therapeutic effect, then a larger dose should produce an even more beneficial effect is not always true for LLLT and can even be harmful. When the right wavelength at the right intensity is used at the correct anatomical location for the right amount of time you can optimise wound healing, stimulate repair, resolve inflammation, reduce pain and increase cell modulation. As Chartered Physiotherapists we use evidence based treatment protocols to effectively treat a range of conditions using this modality.
